Summary:A computer-implemented method executed on data processing hardware of a user device that causes the data processing hardware to perform operations comprising: receiving a voice input from a user associated with the user device, the voice input comprising a control term and one or more other terms; before performing any speech-to-text conversion on the received voice input to convert the one or more other terms in the received voice input into text, identifying that the voice input comprises the control term; in response to identifying that the voice input comprises the control term: performing speech-to-text conversion on the one or more other terms in the received voice input to convert the one or more other terms in the received voice input into text; and identifying, from the text of the one or more other terms, a subject of a particular action for an application to perform; and instructing the application to perform the particular action based on the subject of the particular action identified from the text of the one or more other terms.
