LOCATION OF A TRANSPONDER WITH A SURROUND AREA SHARED INTO A PLURALITY OF SITES

The present invention relates to locating a transponder within a surveillance area of a locating system, wherein each receiver (R1-R8) measures a signal strength of periodic signals from each beacon (B1-B6) and a probability density function (700, 715, 717, 718) of the signal strength is calculated...

Summary:The present invention relates to locating a transponder within a surveillance area of a locating system, wherein each receiver (R1-R8) measures a signal strength of periodic signals from each beacon (B1-B6) and a probability density function (700, 715, 717, 718) of the signal strength is calculated for each beacon. Based on the probability density functions, a confidence interval (71-76) of the signal strength within each section is determined and a signal strength signature (10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70) is calculated accordingly. Further, a signal strength fingerprint (500) is generated from measurements of the transponder and sections (104, 107) having a signal strength signature (40, 70) matching to the signal strength fingerprint are selected for determining the position of the transponder. The position of the transponder is determined from candidate positions and has a maximum match between the measurements of the transponder and the probability density functions.
