Summary: | The present invention relates to an improved method for preparing and isolating hydrogen cyanide, said method comprising the reaction of methane (e.g. natural gas), ammonia and optionally oxygen, wherein C2-C10 nitrile by-products, such as acetonitrile, acrylonitrile and propionitrile, are enriched in a suitable manner in the subsequent processing and isolation of hydrogen cyanide by means of optimised material flow control and are effectively discharged from the method. Using this method it is possible to reduce interfering polymeric deposits in the plant. The invention also relates to a method for preparing methacrylic acid (MAS) and/or alkyl methacrylates, in particular methyl methacrylate (MMA), in an ACH sulfo process using hydrogen cyanide prepared according to the invention. |
