The invention relates to a system (10) for treating kegs (12) provided with data carriers (11), comprising: one or more treatment modules (14a-14g), each of which has - a keg receiving area (35) for receiving at least one keg (12), - a treatment head (36) for treating the keg (12), and - at least one interface (41) for a discharge and for at least one cleaning medium line and/or at least one filling product line, wherein the system (10) additionally comprises at least one signaling device (17) for signaling operations to be carried out in conjunction with the treatment modules (14a-14g) and/or at least one feed device (16) for supplying and discharging the kegs (12) to/from the individual treatment modules (14a-14g), and the system (10) comprises a controller (30) for controlling the treatment modules (14a-14g) and the signaling device (17) and/or the feed device (16). According to the invention, the system (10) contains a reading device (46) which is connected to the controller (30) for reading information from the data carriers (11), and the controller (30) is designed to control and/or regulate the treatment of the kegs (12), in particular a cleaning process and/or a filling process, in the respective treatment module (14a-14g) on the basis of information on the data carriers (11), said information being read by the reading device (46a, 46b).
