Summary:A method of processing packets implemented by a first node. The method includes storing a Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) flow specification, receiving a packet from a second node in a network, and performing a BGP flow specification matching process to determine whether the BGP flow specification matches the packet. The BGP flow specification is considered to match the packet when data associated with the packet matches an intersection (AND) of all components in the BGP flow specification. The method further includes encountering a component error with a component in the BGP flow specification during the BGP flow specification matching process, determining an error handling action to perform for the component based on error handling information stored in or with the BGP flow specification, and performing the error handling action for the component.
