Summary:A method, comprising: at a hearing aid with a processor; a memory; an output unit; and a wireless communication unit: receiving, via the wireless communication unit, a wireless signal including a succession of frames including a first frame including first encoded audio samples; and determining a first codec; performing an error check based on the first frame; and in accordance with a determination that the first frame fails to pass the error check: performing a test, including determining first difference values between first expected histogram values in categories and first observed histogram values of the first encoded audio samples in the categories; wherein the expected histogram values are associated with the first codec; and determining a first fitness value associated with the first difference values; wherein the first expected histogram values are stored in the memory; in accordance with a determination that the first fitness value satisfies a first criterion, enabling rendering of the first encoded audio samples via the output unit. The wireless communication unit may be a Bluetooth Low Energy wireless communication unit.
