ROTOR BEARING DAMPER FOR A VACUUM PUMP

A rotor bearing damper 34, for a vacuum pump 10, has an inner fixture 36 coupled to a rotor bearing 14, an outer fixture 38 radially outward of the inner fixture and coupled to a housing 24 of the vacuum pump, and a flexure 40 extending radially outwardly from the inner fixture to the outer fixture....

Summary:A rotor bearing damper 34, for a vacuum pump 10, has an inner fixture 36 coupled to a rotor bearing 14, an outer fixture 38 radially outward of the inner fixture and coupled to a housing 24 of the vacuum pump, and a flexure 40 extending radially outwardly from the inner fixture to the outer fixture. The flexure is relatively less flexible in a radial plane and relatively more flexible in a direction perpendicular to the radial plane. A vacuum pump has a bearing arrangement coupled to a pump housing by a radially outwardly extending rotor bearing damper, which is relatively more flexible in a direction parallel to the rotational axis of a rotor shaft 12 and less flexible in a plane perpendicular to the rotational axis. A vacuum pump has a bearing arrangement comprising a bearing coupled to a rotor shaft and a resilient bearing support. The resilient bearing support has an inner portion 28 coupled to the bearing and an outer portion 30 connected to the inner portion by a resiliently flexible member 32. The outer portion is coupled to a pump housing by a radially outwardly extending rotor bearing damper.
