Summary:A bearing assembly 10 for mounting a rotatable shaft 40 of a pump and a pump having such a bearing assembly 10 are disclosed. The bearing assembly 10 comprises a bearing comprising an inner ring 22 and an outer ring 24, and a shield 28 extending between the inner and the outer ring 22, 24. The shield 28 is configured to inhibit lubricant leakage and to extend radially across and axially into an annular gap between the inner and the outer ring 22, 24. An axial length of the shield 28 is more than 20% of an axial length of at least one of the inner or outer ring 22, 24. The shield 28 can provide an axial and radial end stop in case of failure of the bearing. The bearing assembly 10 optionally comprises of a bearing support (30, figure 3) that surrounds at least an outer portion of the outer ring 24 and extends across at least a portion of an end surface of the outer ring 24.
