A head-up display (200) and a head-up display method are provided. The head-up display (200) includes a picture generation unit (110, 210, or 310) and a first lens. The picture generation unit (110, 210, or 310) is configured to output a first light ray and a second light ray. The first light ray is used to output and display a first picture, and the second light ray is used to output and display a second picture. The first lens is configured to move from a first position to a second position under driving of a first drive circuit. When the first lens is at the first position, the first light ray and the second light ray do not pass through the first lens. When the first lens is at the second position, the first light ray passes through the first lens, so that a visual distance of a virtual image of the first picture is not equal to a visual distance of a virtual image of the second picture. The head-up display (200) can implement switching between a single image plane and a plurality of image planes.
