Summary:A longitudinal stiffness estimation system and method for at least one tire (12) supporting a vehicle (14) is disclosed. The system (10) comprises an electronic communication system (28) disposed on the vehicle (14); a sensor (24) disposed on the vehicle (14) and in electronic communication with the electronic communication system (28); a processor (26) accessible through the electronic communication system (28); the sensor (24) being configured for measuring selected parameters associated with the vehicle (14) and communicating data for the selected parameters through the electronic communication system (28) to the processor (26); a µ-slip curve generator (42) in communication with the processor (26) and configured for receiving the selected parameters and generating a µ-slip curve (44) in real time from the communicated data; an extraction module (54) in communication with the processor (26) and configured for extracting raw data (56) from a linear portion (50) of the µ-slip curve (44); a denoising module (66) in communication with the processor (26) and configured for de-noising the raw data (56) from the µ-slip curve (44) by determining a pattern from the raw data (56) represented by a vector (60), an orientation of the vector (60), and a heading of the vector (60), wherein the denoising module (66) is configured to generate de-noised data (74); and a stiffness calculator (76) configured for receiving the de-noised data (74) and generating a longitudinal stiffness estimate (52) for the at least one tire (12).
