Summary: | This positive electrode active material is characterized by comprising a composite oxide containing Li, Ni, and, optionally, at least one element other than Li and Ni, and characterized in that one of the following applies: for primary particles constituting secondary particles of the composite oxide, the coefficient of variation of span represented by the formula (D190 - D110)/D150 (where D110, D150, and D190 are particle diameters in which the cumulative value of the particle diameter distribution of the primary particle size in terms of quantity correspond to 10%, 50%, and 90%, respectively) is 17% or below; the coefficient of variation of D150 is 19% or below; and, for the secondary particles, the values of |[(element ratio 1 - element ratio 21)/element ratio 1]| × 100, |[(element ratio 1 - element ratio 22)/element ratio 1]| × 100, and |[(element ratio 1 - element ratio 23)/element ratio 1]| × 100 (where element ratios 1, 21, 22, and 23 are such that the values of the element ratios (Li/(Ni + other elements)) for the total secondary particles, small particles, medium particles, and large particles) are all at 1.00% or below. |
