Summary:The invention relates to a bimetallic catalytic system consisting of the metal components having the formulae RLi and Mt(AR'y)2 (L)x where - R is a substituted or unsubstituted C1-C10 aliphatic radical, a substituted or unsubstituted C6-C20 aromatic radical, a diene prepolymer or a substituted or unsubstituted C1-C10 heteroaliphatic radical, - Mt is an alkaline earth metal selected from Be, Mg, Ba and Sr, - A is a nitrogen atom N or a carbon atom C, - y depends on the valence of A, y is 2 when A is N and y is 3 when A is C, - each R' is, independently of each other, a hydrogen atom, a substituted or unsubstituted C5-C10 aliphatic radical, a substituted or unsubstituted C6-C20 aromatic radical, a substituted or unsubstituted silyl radical, a C1-C10 aliphatic radical substituted with at least one substituted or unsubstituted silyl radical, a C6-C20 aromatic radical, substituted with at least one substituted or unsubstituted silyl radical, - L is a ligand, - and x is a number from 0 to 4. The invention further relates to the use of this bimetallic catalytic system for the anionic polymerization of 1,3-dienes, whereby trans-1,4-stereoregular diene polymers can be obtained.
