Summary:The invention relates to the field of medical technology and can be used for all technologies and on all devices with rotating surgical instruments. The device according to the invention and the method allow the thermal and/or mechanical stresses of rotating instruments to be determined on-line (in real time) by means of an impedance-measuring method. The invention should contribute to reducing or preventing the risk of breakages and/or damage to rotating instruments and the surrounding materials. The object of the invention is to allow for the monitoring of mechanical and/or thermal stresses on rotating, in particular modular, instruments using an impedance-measuring method. The stresses to be monitored can be thermally, chemically or physically induced material changes. The object is achieved via the on-line measurement of the impedance and the evaluation thereof using integrated electronics. For example, the reduction in the risk of breakages and jamming for root canal files due to strong thermal and/or mechanical stress functions to allow for an optimised treatment of e.g. dental diseases to be carried out.
