Summary:A supporting member supports a peeled end portion an optical fiber, which includes a core wire having a core and a cladding and includes a jacket used to enclose the core wire. The peeled end portion is formed at an end portion in the longitudinal direction representing a first direction of the optical fiber, and has the core wire in the exposed state as a result of removal of the jacket. The supporting member includes a first member, and a second member that is fixed to the first member. In between the first member and the second member, a housing portion is provided which extends along the peeled end portion and in which the peeled end portion is housed. The supporting member also includes a processed member that is housed in the housing portion and around the peeled end portion, and that causes transmission or scattering of the light leaking from the peeled end portion.
