To provide a method for manufacturing a metal band material that rolls a band material from a slab 3 using a plurality of rolling stands in a rolling line, and connects individual partial slabs to be rolled from the individual partial slabs 3a and 3b by a slab joint device 4, which separates a part 5 of the partial slab 3a positioned in front in a rolling direction R and a part of the partial slab 3b positioned backward in the rolling direction in the slab joint device, and joins both of the slabs in a separation part 6, enables improved monitoring of a slab manufacturing process and can quickly react defects in a coarsely rolled product (slab or coarsely rolled material).SOLUTION: At least one of both of partial slab 3a and 3b is measured in a separation part 6 before joining after both of the partial slabs are separated.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
