The invention relates to a device for the treatment of fibrous material in a working chamber (4) of a treatment housing (5), in which at least one rotating treatment tool (7) and a non-rotating treatment tool (6) are arranged, wherein the treatment tools (6, 7) have a rotationally symmetrical shape, are arranged coaxially with respect to one another, and delimit a treatment nip (8), through which the fibrous material flows, and the rotating treatment tool (7) is connected to a rotating drive shaft (1) which is mounted in a bearing (2) of a bearing housing arranged outside the working chamber (4) and is sealed between the working space (4) and the bearing housing towards the treatment housing (5) via a seal (10) which comprises at least one sealing channel (9) for a barrier fluid. Here, in the case of sufficient cooling, the compactness is to be increased by virtue of the fact that the bearing housing has at least one cooling channel which is connected to a sealing channel (9) and through which the barrier fluid flows.
