Summary: | A system for storing bicycles comprises an elongate supporting member (10) and several carriages (40). Each carriage (40) that has a body (42) that is supported on and that can travel along the supporting member (10) and a carrier component (44) that, for use, extends downwardly from the body (42), from which a bicycle (30) can be suspended. The carrier component (44) can be rotated with respect to the body (42) about a carrier axis that is approximately vertical. The carrying component (44) can be displaced vertically with respect to the body (42) between a lower free position and an upper braking position, the braking position being above the free position. In the free position, the carrying component (44) is free to rotate about the carrier axis and the body is free to travel along the supporting member (10), and in the braking position, at least one of rotation of the carrier and travel of the body along the supporting member is inhibited. Each carriage further includes a spring (76) that urges the carrying component (44) towards the braking position, and against which the carrying component can be displaced to the free position by weight suspended from the carrying component. The connection between the carrying component (44) and the body (42) is arranged to allow tilting of the carrier axis. |
