The invention relates to a method for guiding a preform (10) in a device (18) for aligning and straightening preforms, and to such an aligning and straightening device (18) having: - a rotating plate (24); - a fixed rail (36), an external support face (37) of which extends at the same level as an internal support face (29) of the rotating plate (24); - a peripheral gap (34) delimited radially between the rotating plate (24) and the rail (36), the collar (16) being supported conjointly by the internal support face (29) and by the external support face (37); characterized in that the guiding of the preform (10) in the gap (34) consists in limiting, in both directions, the radial movement of the preform (10) by contact between the peripheral edge (42) of the collar (16) and stop faces (38, 40).
