It is described a method of controlling a thermoforming cycle on an article (2) made of thermoplastic material in a thermoforming machine (1) in which an operating parameter of the forming cycle is set and a desired geometry for the article (2) in an operational phase of the thermoforming cycle is created; the method also includes detecting, by means of detection sensor means (8), a real geometry assumed by the article (2) in the operational phase, verifying compliance with a relationship criterion between the real geometry and the desired geometry, according to the verification result modifying the operating parameter of the forming cycle. A thermoforming machine (1) configured to perform a thermoforming cycle on an article (2) made of thermoplastic material, equipped with sensor means for detecting (8) a geometry of the article during a phase of the thermoforming cycle is described, and control means configured to perform a control of the thermoforming cycle according to the control method described above.
