Summary:The invention relates to a strand guide for guiding a cast strand after it emerges from a mould (200) and to a method for operating the strand guide. The strand guide has a plurality of segments (110-0, 110-1) arranged one behind the other in the casting direction G. The zero segment (110-0), which is the first segment in the casting direction G behind the mould (200), is mounted on a movable bearing (120). In order to reduce the risk of damage to strand guiding rollers of a segment or to the inside walls of a mould being caused by a cold strand being guided in the strand guide, at least one distance limiting element (140) is provided for limiting a displacement distance in the x direction of the segment mounted on the movable bearing (120).
