Summary:A hydrogen production method of the present embodiment is a hydrogen production method for producing hydrogen through electrolysis of water containing alkali by a water electrolysis system comprising an electrolyzer and a power supply for supplying an electric power to the electrolyzer. The method includes supplying the electric power to the electrolyzer such that an electric current density is 10 Am-2 or more and less than 1500 Am-2 in terms of a projected area of a membrane, and an integral value of the electric current density applied is 2000 Ch-1m-2 or more and 54000 kCh-1m-2 or less, when the electric power supplied to the electrolyzer decreases.
