Summary:One aspect of this disclosure relates to a computer-implemented method for determining a gateway beacon transmission scheme in a low power wide area network comprising a plurality of gateway devices and a plurality of end devices, wherein each of the end devices is configured for wirelessly receiving a beacon signal from one or more of the gateway devices in the network for synchronizing time windows of the end devices for data reception from the gateway devices. At least one gateway device is selected from the plurality of gateway devices in the network as a beacon transmitting gateway device and one or more neighbor gateway devices are deactivated for beacon transmission. A network performance function is executed for a network with the at least one selected beacon transmitting gateway device and the neighbor devices for which the beacon transmission is deactivated to obtain a first network performance result; and then at least one gateway device that is different from the at least one beacon transmitting gateway device is selected to obtain a second network performance result. A gateway beacon transmission scheme of beacon transmitting gateway devices is determined based on a comparison of at least the first network performance result and the second network performance result.
