Summary:To achieve low cost and to provide high durability in a toy system capable of determining a status of a separate toy. The toy system includes a casing, a magnetic sensor, and a determination section. The magnetic sensor is disposed on the casing to detect an orientation and a magnitude of a magnetic field. The determination section determines, based on an output from the magnetic sensor, that one of a plurality of separate toys having magnetic field generation means has approached the magnetic sensor and determines which of the separate toys has approached the magnetic sensor. The magnetic field generation means are mounted individually on the separate toys in such a manner as to generate differently oriented magnetic fields in a standard posture. Alternatively, the determination section determines, based on the output from the magnetic sensor, that a separate toy separated from the casing in which magnetic field generation means for generating a magnetic field is mounted has come into contact with or approached the casing.
