Summary:The object of the invention is a forming apparatus (5) for determining the mutual spatial orientation of a group (G) of rod-like articles (3) of the tobacco industry, comprising a transport carriage (12) and a transport tray provided with a number of transport grooves (15) adapted to hold the rod-like articles (3), whereas the tray is fastened to the transport carriage (12), characterised in that the transport tray is divided into two transport sections (13, 13'), whereas the transport sections (13, 13') are adapted to shift between an open configuration in which the transport grooves (15) are situated in substantially one plane (k, k') and a closed configuration in which the transport grooves (15) are situated in two planes which are substantially parallel to each other (k, k').
