Prior art solutions are improved by the invention for the cable retainer insert (1) in that the cable retainer insert (1) being configured to be inserted in a housing (75) of a connector (51), the cable retainer insert (1) having a cable contact portion (21), a plurality of circumferentially spaced cable receptacles (5), each cable receptacle (5) being configured to receive at least one strand (59) of the multi-strand cable (57), each cable receptacle (5) further comprising a cable strand insertion opening (7) at a radially outward end (9), and a bottom (11) at an opposite radially inward end (13), wherein a circle (37) inscribed in the cable receptacle (5) and touching the bottom (11) of the cable receptacle (5) extends radially outwards beyond the cable strand insertion opening (7).
