Summary:The invention relates to a roll stand (100) and a method for the operation thereof for rolling a material (200) to be rolled, in particular a metal strip. In order to align the friction at the top and the friction at the bottom of the rolling gap with one another, according to the invention, first a possible size difference between the friction at the top and the friction at the bottom is determined, and then the drop size of a first emulsion is reduced and/or the drop size of a second emulsion is increased, as long as the friction at the top is greater than the friction at the bottom.
