Summary:A laminating machine (200) and process (700) for applying an optically clear adhesive film (502) to a glass substrate (504) includes a porous belt assembly (202) with a plurality of vacuum pumps (408). The vacuum pumps (408) define different, separately adjustable vacuum zones (514) on the surface of the porous belt (304;508). The porous belt (304;508) is driven linearly so that an optically clear adhesive (502) does not move relative to the porous belt (304;508), but does move relative to the table (204;506;606), allowing the adhesive (502) to be controlled to a compressive, neutral, or tensile state while being nip-rolled to the substrate (504). Since there is no motion of the film (502) relative to the belt (304;508), scratching, stretch elongation, dimensional errors, and other slip induced damage is eliminated.
