Summary:A composite manufacturing system (100) is provided. The composite manufacturing system comprises a robotic arm (212) and a trimming system (210) connected to the robotic arm. The trimming system (210) comprises a knife (220), a rotation device (222), a number of lasers (224), and a load cell (226) associated with the knife. The rotation device is configured to rotate a blade (232) of the knife about a center point (260). The number of lasers (224) is configured to determine a position of the blade relative to a desired position for the blade. The load cell (226) is configured to sense an amount of force applied to the blade during trimming of an uncured composite structure. A controller (228) controls the behavior of the trimming system (210) based on information received from its components.
