Summary:An armrest assembly (100, 200, 300, 400) for an aircraft passenger seat (30) including a base (102, 202, 302, 402), a first arm (120, 220, 320, 420) having a first end pivotally attached to the base, a second arm (130, 230, 330, 430) having a first end pivotally attached to the base, and an arm support element (108, 208, 308, 408) pivotally connected to a second end of the first arm and pivotally connected to a second end of the second arm. An assist device (110, 250, 350, 410) applies force to bias the arm support element from a first position toward a second position higher than the first position. The base, the arm support element, the first arm, and the second arm operate together as a 4-bar linkage system. Upon actuation of a user-actuatable release device (106, 206, 306, 406), the arm support element can be moved from the first position to the second position with force assistance from the assist device.
