Summary:The present disclosure relates to a wire drive assembly (100) for a welding power supply. A drive roll (180)of the wire drive assembly (100) has a plurality of configurations relating to receiving different types of wire on different grooves. A sensor (190) detects the configuration of the drive roll (180) to receive a particular wire type with a particular diameter in a particular groove. This sensor (190) detects which of the configurations has been set based on an angle through which the drive roll (180) is rotated in setting one of the plurality of configurations.. The welding power supply can use this information to automatically set the wire speed.
