Summary:The invention relates to a pet food composition comprising D-allulose. It has been found that D-allulose is capable of rendering pet food with prebiotic properties, stimulating the production of organic acids in the colon by indigenous bacteria, selectively stimulating and/or suppressing the growth or activity of indigenous bacteria in the colon, or improving the balance of the intestinal bacterial flora. The invention also relates to an edible pet food composition comprising D-allulose in combination with another prebiotic, or in combination with another food ingredient for which an EU Health Claim has been acknowledged, or in combination with a probiotic.
