The invention relates to a display system (1), which is arranged in a housing, for a cooktop (2). The display system (1) is characterized in that the display system is mounted above a cooktop (2) and the display system (1) comprises at least one sensing unit (11) for sensing at least one state of the cooktop (2) and a projection unit (12) for projecting a representation (14) of the at least one sensed state of the cooktop onto the cooktop (2). The invention further relates to a range hood (3) that comprises at least part of such a display system (1). In addition, the invention relates to a method for displaying at least one state on a cooktop (2), wherein by means of such a display system (1), which comprises at least one sensing unit (11) and a projection unit (12) and is arranged above the cooktop, a) the at least one state of the cooktop (2) is sensed as state information contactlessly by means of the at least one sensing unit (11), b) the state information of the at least one sensed state is converted into representation data, and c) a representation (14) is projected onto the cooktop (2) by means of the projection unit (12) on the basis of the representation data.
