Summary:A shock absorber (10) comprising a housing (22) that includes a compression volume (23) and an extension volume (25); a piston (26) disposed in the housing and that in a first mode moves through at least a portion of a compression stroke to pressurize hydraulic fluid in the compression volume and that in a second mode moves at least partially through an extension stroke to pressurize hydraulic fluid in the extension volume; a hydraulic motor (14) including a first port (30) in fluid communication with the compression volume and a second port (32) in fluid communication with the extension volume; a reservoir (16); and one or more valves (12) configured to maintain fluid communication between the reservoir and a low pressure side of the hydraulic motor; wherein the hydraulic motor is configured and arranged to be operated as a hydraulic pump in at least one mode of operation of the shock absorber.
