The invention relates to a method for controlling an autonomous vehicle with a vehicle control appliance (20) for controlling autonomous driving functions of the vehicle and a brake control appliance (18) for controlling brake functions of a particularly pneumatic brake system of the vehicle with at least one brake device, particularly a parking brake. The brake device can be activated for braking and deactivated for driving by the brake control appliance (18) and/or the vehicle control appliance (20), by controlling at least one switching element. The invention is characterised in that the switching element preferably comprises a solenoid valve and two electrical conductors (22, 23) for control, one of the two conductors (22, 23) being switched by the brake control appliance (18) and the other of the two conductors (23, 22) being switched by the vehicle control appliance (20). Furthermore, the invention relates to another control system for implementing the method according to the invention and to a vehicle comprising such a control system.
