Summary:The invention to which this application relates is a clamping mechanism of a type which is adapted to be used with a base (4). The apparatus (2) is provided for use in conjunction with a base (4) to exert a clamping effect on a workpiece (13) with respect to the base (4) and the clamp apparatus (2) includes an elongate shaft (14), a locating portion (52, 6) provided at, or towards one, end of the said shaft, a user operated actuation means selectively located between the said locating portion (52, 6) and the opposing end of the elongate shaft (14). The actuation means are provided with, or connected to, a clamping portion (12) and the locating portion (52, 6) is provided to allow location of the clamp apparatus (2) with respect to engagement means provided on the base (4).
