The invention relates to a method for processing a plate-shaped material by means of a cutting beam. The plate-shaped material is larger than the working area of the processing machine. A processing head moves in the working area and the plate-shaped material is gradually conveyed to a first position in the working area in the conveying direction. The workpieces are oriented relative to each otherand are nested in a machining process, the plate-shaped material is positioned in a working region in a first working step and all completes cutting contours of one or more workpieces equal to or smaller than the working region in the working region are determined by a machining program, wherein the workpiece is produced in the working step. In a second working step, the plate-shaped material continues to be stepped in the conveying direction and is positioned in a further position of the working region such that a further remaining and/or further complete cutting profile for one or more workpieces that are again located in the working region is determined, said workpieces being produced during the cutting process. The invention also relates to a corresponding processing facility and a program storage medium.
