Summary:A catalyst-coated membrane (CCM) for use in a water electrolyser, the catalyst-coated membrane having a laminate structure with a layer order: cathode catalyst layer; first membrane layer; recombination catalyst layer; second membrane layer; anode catalyst layer, wherein the recombination catalyst layer is positioned closer to the anode catalyst layer than the cathode catalyst layer. The CCM is useful within a water electrolyser. The recombination catalyst layer reduces the risk associated with hydrogen crossover and allows thinner membranes with lower resistance to be used.
