Summary:A gas switch (100) includes an anode (106) and a cathode (108) spaced apart from the anode (106), wherein the cathode (108) includes a conduction surface (107). The gas switch (100) also includes a plurality of magnets 9122) arranged to generate a magnetic field that defines an annular path over a portion of the conduction surface (107) at a radial distance from a switch axis (104), and a control grid (114) positioned between the anode (106) and the cathode (108). In operation, the control grid (114) is arranged to establish a conducting plasma between the anode (106) and the cathode (108), wherein, in the presence of the conducting plasma, a voltage drop between the anode (106) and the cathode (108) is less than 150 volts, and wherein the conducting plasma forms a cathode spot (302) that circles the annular path.
