Summary:A rubber composition for use in a tire tread is disclosed. The rubber composition comprises, based on parts by weight per 100 parts by weight elastomer (phr):(A) 100 phr of conjugated diene-based elastomers but exclusive of elastomers containing styrene and exclusive of polybutadiene elastomers having a vinyl 1,2-content in a range of from 15 to 60 percent, comprising:(1) from 10 to 75 phr of a polybutadiene rubber having a Tg in a range of from -40°C to -10°C and an isomeric vinyl 1,2-content in a range of from 60 to 85 percent, and(2) from 90 to 25 phr of 1,4-polyisoprene rubber having a Tg in a range of from -65°C to -75°C and an isomeric cis 1,4- content of at least 95 percent;(B) from 80 to 200 phr of a filler comprising a combination of silica and carbon black in a ratio of silica to carbon black of at least 9/1, together with a silica coupling agent having a moiety reactive with hydroxyl groups on the silica and another different moiety interactive with the diene-based elastomers; and(C) from 10 to 60 phr of at least one additive comprising at least one of:(1) a resin,(2) a petroleum based rubber processing oil, and(3) a vegetable triglyceride rubber processing oil.
