Summary:Method for processing at least one X-ray image (1, 25, 26), comprising applying a noise reduction algorithm to variance-stabilized data (7) and applying an inverse transformation to generate a denoised X-ray image (9), wherein a structure map (24), that describes at least one area of the X-ray image (1) that contains a structure that is not sufficiently reproduced in the denoised and/or a final image (9, 17), is generated from the X-ray image (1) and/or the denoised image (9) and/or the final image (17), wherein for each pixel of an output image the respective pixel of the denoised or the final image (9, 17) is used if the pixel is outside of the described area and a blend of the final and the denoised image (9, 17) or a blend of the denoised or the final image (9, 17) and a further image generated in dependence of the X-ray image (1) is used if the pixel is inside the described area or one of the described areas, wherein in those embodiments of the method that use the final image (17) the denoised images (9) or sets of noise-reduced data (8) are generated for all X-ray images (1) of a sequence of X-ray images (1) and additional steps are performed to generate the final image (17) for at least one of the X-ray images (1).
