Summary:The invention relates to a device and a method for controlling a brake device, preferably an emergency brake device, of a rail vehicle. At least one switchover parameter for a change of a brake device brake pressure generated by a pressure converter (26) is detected, and a trigger signal (Tr) is generated in response to an ascertained specified value of the switchover parameter. A brake control pressure for the pressure converter (26) is introduced into an air container (28), and a supply line of the brake control pressure from the air container (28) to the pressure converter (26) is opened in response to the trigger signal (Tr).
