Summary:The invention relates to a method for operating a bending press (1) for carrying out a forming operation on a workpiece (2) of sheet metal, wherein the bending press (1) is formed with a table beam (4) and a press beam (5), and wherein the table beam (4) and the press beam (5) have tool holders (19, 20) for bending tools (6, 7), and wherein a stop device (12) is designed for positioning the workpiece (2) to be worked. When changing an arrangement of bending tools (6, 7), before removing a first bending tool (6, 7) that is to be moved away or before inserting a first bending tool (6, 7) that is to be inserted, the stop device (12) is brought up against a second bending tool (6, 7) and, as a result, this second bending tool (6, 7) is securely held in the tool holder (19, 20).
