Summary:A method (800) for concurrent use of multiple heart rate estimation techniques, the method comprising: providing (802) a plurality of heart rate estimators for estimating a heart rate, each one of the plurality of heart rate estimators optimized for one of a number of predetermined measurement contexts for measuring the heart rate with a wearable physiological monitor; providing (804) a plurality of probability estimators, each one of the plurality of probability estimators corresponding to one of the plurality of heart rate estimators, and each one of the plurality of probability estimators providing a likelihood that a corresponding heart rate estimator is accurately estimating the heart rate based on a single physiological signal from the wearable physiological monitor; acquiring (806) the physiological signal from the wearable physiological monitor over an interval having segments; for the physiological signal for each segment of the interval, assigning (808) one or more selected ones of the plurality of heart rate estimators to the segment according to the likelihood of accurately estimating the heart rate in the segment; and providing (810) a heart rate signal over the interval based upon the physiological signal and the selected ones of the plurality of heart rate estimators.
