Summary:The invention relates to a washing device for a vehicle washing system, said washing device comprising a shaft (40) which can be rotated about a rotational axis (42) and washing elements (44) operatively connected to the shaft for washing a vehicle (22). The aim of the invention is to provide such a washing device with which an adaptation to the contour of a vehicle is possible in order to achieve a better cleaning of said vehicle. According to the invention, this is achieved in that the washing device (38, 74, 76, 78, 86, 90, 92, 98, 100, 102, 120, 132, 138, 156, 180, 182) comprises a washing element retaining device (50) that is coupled to the shaft (40) and has washing element retaining parts (70) on which the rigid ends (48) of the washing elements (44) are retained, and the washing element retaining parts (70) are designed in a movable manner relative to the shaft (40) and are moved relative to the shaft when a force is applied in the direction of the shaft (40) in the rotating state of the shaft (40) in order to reduce the distance from the rigid ends (48) of the washing elements (44) to the shaft (40). The invention further relates to a vehicle washing system.
