Summary:A processing device and method are disclosed with a computer-readable storage storing a database with frame fingerprints associated with media programs, e.g., frames of originating media content with a corresponding time stamp. The processing device receives, from a media device, a fingerprint of content being consumed by a user that includes an ordered sequence of frames and corresponding time stamps. The processing device queries the database to generate time-based results including a set of points resulting from mapping time stamps of the ordered sequence of frames of the fingerprint to time stamps of the most closely matching frame fingerprints. The processing device executes a pattern recognition algorithm on the set of points to determine a media program corresponding to the content being consumed and sends an identification of the media program to an advertising server (or targeter) with which to target additional content to the user viewing the media program.
