Summary:A drive protection device for protecting a traction drive in a vehicle, in particular a rail vehicle, includes at least one switching unit having an activation position and a deactivation position that protects the drive. A control unit is provided to trigger a transfer into the deactivation position, in at least one first operating situation, when an operating variable of the drive is in a critical region. In order to provide a drive protection device of this type, which can be used with a high degree of safety in as-wide-as-possible a range of operating situations of the vehicle, while still being simple to construct and cost-effective to implement, the control unit maintains the activation position, in at least one second operating situation, when the operating variable is in the critical region.
