Provided are: an inorganic fiber-formed article having a high delamination strength between layers as well a high surface pressure; a mat for an exhaust gas cleaning apparatus; and an exhaust gas cleaning apparatus, the mat and the apparatus using the inorganic fiber-formed article. The inorganic fiber-formed article 1 is composed of a mat-shaped inorganic fiber assembly and has needle marks A, B which extend in a direction including the thickness direction of the mat-shaped assembly. Dense portions 2, in which a plurality of needle marks A lie densely, are arranged apart in a spread out manner. In both a first direction which any direction extending through the dense portions 2 on the surface of the mat, and a second direction orthogonal to the first direction, non-dense portions 4 are present between the dense portions 2. The needle marks B have a diameter smaller than that of the needle marks A.
