The invention relates to a method for forming a layer of particulates on a moving support, the method comprising: providing a moveable mesh web, the mesh web defining a plurality of apertures; orienting the mesh web to extend above the moving support and at an angle of inclination relative to the moving support; linearly displacing the mesh web at a speed corresponding to the speed of the moving support; dispensing particulates on the mesh web and onto at least a portion of the mesh web that is oriented at the angle of inclination, whereby particulates pass through the moving mesh web, and onto the moving support to thereby form the layer of particulates.
