Summary:A pointer needle for an indication device of a motor vehicle has a transparent optical waveguide that receives light propagating along a direction of propagation at a light-entry side, and emits the light in an emission direction at a light-exit side. The optical waveguide has a scattering side opposite to the light-exit side, the scattering side having steps arranged offset to one another across the propagation direction. When the steps are irradiated by light, the pointer needle provided in the indication device can clearly be perceived in the dark.
