Summary:The invention relates to an apparatus for simulating force on an operating element of a vehicle, preferably a pedal simulator, which provides haptic feedback about a prespecified force/travel behaviour, comprising a piston/cylinder unit (5, 14), wherein a piston (5) is connected to the operating element (3) by means of a piston rod (4), said operating element moving the piston axially within the cylinder (14). In the case of an apparatus in which the vehicle user is provided with the same feeling as in the case of a hydraulic operating device, a resistance element (17) projects into the cylinder approximately perpendicularly to the movement direction of the piston, it being possible for the piston to move along said resistance element with friction when the operating element moves.
